Bárd is an information management company headquartered in the Gaeltacht in West Cork, with a subsidiaries Litriocht.com in Cill Chúile, Co. Kerry, and Bard International, in San Jose, California. Founded by Tom Fitzgerald from Cill Chúile, Co. Kerry, the company continues to expand its operations in Kerry.
The Bárd Group provides technical writing, outsourcing, and Irish language services. Technical writing services are provided in English to multinational companies and EU bodies such as the European Foundation. Irish language services include, Irish language translation at www.freastal.ie, online Irish language book and music sales at www.litriocht.com, and online Irish language elearning at www.gaeltalk.net.
Bard’s documentation and outsourcing division, www.bardwrite.com provides
technical writing services to major multi-national companies like Amdocs
International, Cisco Systems, Skype, Teletech and Trend Micro. Writers are
located in Ballingeary, South Kerry, and California, USA.
Bard’s translation division, www.freastal.ie, provides Irish language
translation services to more than sixty Irish government agencies and several
design companies. Freastal translators are located all over Ireland with
several in County Kerry.
Bard's Irish language ecommerce division, www.litriocht.com, is based in Cill Chúile, Daingean, Kerry. Litriocht.com promotes Irish culture on five continents and sells Irish language books in more than 55 countries. From a modest start of 100 titles in November 1999, Litriocht has developed a selection of more than 5,000 titles available 24 hours a day worldwide. Litriocht’s stated goal is to include “Every Irish language book in print”. The site had more than 3 Million visitors in 2006 and client countries include China, Yemen, and Zaire.
European award winning Gaeltalk is an Internet-based Irish language training site. Gaeltalk provides live classes from the Gaeltacht to students in more than a dozen countries. Gaeltalk was awarded the European Language Award by Minister for Education, Mary Hanafin in September 2005.
Bárd was named Cork SME company of the year in Feb 2005, and also named the 5th fastest growing technology company in Ireland, and #80 in EMEA in the Deloitte Fast 50/500 in November 2005, and one of Cork’s Leading Employers in 2006.
