Jerry O'Sullivan's Caterassist
Caterassist was conceived by Jerry O’Sullivan in March 2001. Having worked in the hospitality industry since the tender age of 14, for various employers in both in Ireland and worldwide, he decided it was time to set up his own business. “Caterassist was set up as a professional service provider offering an array of services under the one company, specializing for hospitality and food retail clients,” he says.
He worked for many hotels and hospitality companies worldwide, traveled wide and far, gained Senior management experience through his sheer determination and love of the industry. In his younger years people referred to him as a young Marco Pierre White, Looking back he says ‘ I suppose I was, I remember if the waiter or waitress tilted the plate after I spending time to presented it and if anything moved on the plate, id let a roar, I suppose somebody had to care!’.
Been very artistic and creative at a young very age, his plate was his palate, He remembers one famous chef that he worked under, pulling him one day by the ears to show him how to feel and lift the lettuce and leaves on a mixed salad so the salad was presented high, that was the last time his salads were flat!
After gaining fantastic cheffing training at IT Tralee, he was swiftly promoted up the ranks, even a year out of college. He was Sous Chef in a 100 room hotel with extensive banqueting and 6 months later was Head Chef of a 100 room hotel.
Responsibility came to him at a young age from the home. If I created an action or did an action he was always told to be accountable for it, where today it stands to him, running his own business!

Working in Kerry is fantastic, what more would I want, the correct life-work balance of no traffic jams, fresh air, national park on our doorstep, good infrastructure, roads, train connections, and Kerry Airport ten minutes away. After all we are the Tourist Capital of Ireland. Kerry has the highest ratio of Hotels and 5star hotels outside of the capital, so it’s Destination Kerry all the way.

To any entrepreneurs out there that are thinking of doing it, try, and try and try. But you must know your product, have researched it and know your market. You have to be different, create a fresh idea, have good contacts and network well, advertise, promote and sell,. Knock on doors, even if you get doors closed, keep trying. Remember you will take many risks, financial and personally if you want to be a success.

In the future Caterassist has many plans, current plans are still in development stage, and of course until there announced remain a secret. All I will say is we are different, we are unique, we are constantly thinking ahead. We don’t copy anybody but others copy us. We do set the standards for other to follow……watch this space for more!
